About
The Tiny Cupboard is the most intimate, high-quality, and affordable stand-up comedy club in NYC.
You might be wondering: why go here over the Comedy Cellar (or another place)? A few reasons:
1. The shows are booked simply based off of who's funny and/or promising—most other clubs in NYC and around the world book people based off how many people a comic can bring to the show, how many people a comic can bark in off the street, how many social media followers a comic has, whether or not a comic works for the venue (or owns it), or whether or not the comic can provide the booker (who's usually also a comic) a service or stage time elsewhere. Tiny Cupboard doesn't do any of that as they believe those practices lead to really inconsistent low quality shows.
2. There is no drink minimum here (we don't force you to spend $75 on mediocre food and watered down drinks).
3. Our tickets and drinks are more affordable (even other clubs who've recently been pressured to adopt no drink minimums have really overpriced drinks and tickets to make up for it.)
4. While we aren't excessively woke, we aim to book comics who don't "punch down" and who aren't disrespectful/tasteless/hacky. We favor comics who are authentic, self-aware, and sincere (and of course funny). Most other clubs don't care about that (which is fine, just not our vibe).
5. The vibe and aesthetic of the club is much more intimate—at a bigger club you won't feel like a part of the show as much. If you're too far away at a big club or venue; it's not much different than watching TV.
6. To discover and support talented up and coming comics before they're massively successful. We do have "famous" comics sometimes as well, but usually our wheelhouse is a comic who's underrated and not yet a household name or someone you know.
The club was founded by Amy Wong & Matt Rosenblum, who live nearby. It is currently the most popular comedy club in Brooklyn NY, and the number one place to discover future famous comedians before they're famous. It's where people start to take off nowadays In stand-up; as The Tiny Cupboard is great space for comedians to cultivate their talent and start to break out. That's not to say that it's a total beginners and amateurs club; the shows are 95 percent proven and tested comics, with an occasional guest spot here and there for amateurs (though there is a separate open mics room as well). It's also the most affordable full time comedy club in NYC as there are no drink minimums, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the tickets are $10-15. The intimacy of the club allows for more interaction and connection between the comics and audience members; compared to bigger & more touristy clubs.
In 2019, the cupboard started off as music, comedy, and experimental experiences in a tiny 153 square foot Bushwick art studio in 2019 (which is how they got their name). When the pandemic hit, The Tiny Cupboard morphed into a rooftop comedy club in Summer 2020, because that is what the comedy community needed at the time with all indoor comedy clubs shutdown. During that time, Tiny Cupboard found its focus as an affordable, intimate, community centered indie stand up comedy club. They opened their indoor pink comedy main room below the roof in 2021, which was originally a church for legal reasons, and use their original tiny room for open mics now.
The Tiny Cupboard is a very grassroots club, totally built from the ground up by the community with no outside investors, or even money from family or friends (it really started with just a few hundred dollars in a tiny art studio room).
The shows are open to all ages (though not necessarily appropriate for all ages but it's your call), so it may be uncomfortable with family or not, it depends on if you're able to handle sex jokes from the comedians; very affordable (usually 10-15 dollars, no drink requirement, no overpriced drinks), and have a cool, smart, and respectful vibe (we try not to book assholes).
There are multiple stand-up comedy shows every single night at the venue in Bushwick, Brooklyn (NYC)!
See you at one of the shows soon!
